Learn Hebrew ("the app", "we", "us") is a Hebrew-learning app for children, used together with their parents. We built it to collect as little as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Learn Hebrew is made and run by an independent developer based in the State of Washington, United States, who is responsible for your information (the "operator" under COPPA and the "controller" under the GDPR). Contact: ofirattia@gmail.com. Learn Hebrew has no ads. Access is by invitation and approval, and may require a fee (see the Terms of Use).
Child profiles (set up by a parent): first name or nickname, age, interface language, Hebrew level, daily goal, and learning progress (lessons, stars, points, letters and words practised, quiz results).
Parent account (needed to use the app): your Google account's email address, name and unique ID, provided by Google when you choose "Sign in with Google". We do not receive your Google password.
Usage statistics (only with your consent): anonymous events such as "lesson finished" or "quiz started", the screen size, browser type, app language, approximate country, and the child's age and Hebrew level (never a name). We do not send names, emails, voice or free text to analytics.
Access request: what the parent fills in when asking for access: their name, their group or company, how many children will learn, and an optional message, when the request was made and decided, and when the app was last opened.
Messages to us: what a parent writes in "Ask us", and our answers.
Payments (only if access requires a fee): whether, when and how much you paid, and how (for example Venmo), which we note in our private records. You pay outside the app, through the payment service and under its own terms; we never receive your card or bank details.
Voice: in speaking exercises the microphone listens only while the child holds or taps the microphone button. Speech is turned into text by your browser's or device's speech service (for example, Google's speech service in Chrome, or Apple's on Safari and iOS), under that provider's own privacy terms. Learn Hebrew only receives the recognised text, uses it right away to check the word, and never stores it or any audio.
We do not use children's information for advertising, profiling or any automated decision about a child.
Learn Hebrew is directed to children under 13 and their parents. We collect a child's personal information only as described above and only through the parent who sets up the profile. A parent can review, change or delete a child's information at any time in the Parents area, or ask us to do it. We do not ask a child for more information than an activity needs. Analytics, when allowed, is used only to support and improve the app (internal operations), never for ads.
Parental consent: only a parent can create a child profile, and does so after reading this policy. Children never type a name or contact details into the app, cannot chat or post anything, and cannot sign in. Cloud saving happens only when a parent signs in with their own Google account.
No disclosure to third parties: we don't disclose children's information to anyone except the service providers listed below, who run the app for us and may not use it for any other purpose. A parent can stop further collection at any time by deleting the child's profile or the account.
Signed-in families' data is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, European region), protected so that each parent account can read and write only its own family. Our service providers may process data in other countries under appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell personal information and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising (as those words are used in California and other US state laws). We disclose information only to the service providers above, if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users. If the app ever changes hands, this policy will continue to protect the information collected under it.
Data on your device stays until you remove the profile or clear your browser data. Cloud data stays while your parent account exists. Access requests and messages are kept while the account exists. When you delete your account, we delete the family's cloud data, access request and messages. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. Payment records are kept as long as accounting and tax laws require (usually up to 7 years), even after an account is deleted, and are used for nothing else.
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and security rules limit cloud access to the signed-in parent. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell parents in the app.
